Valentines Day celebrations typically revolve around the valentine dinner which is generally tasty but light. While preparing this meal, it would be wise to keep your own as well as your partner’’s preferences in mind. In addition to the meal itself, the presentation too is very important. A cozy dinner by the fireplace and the traditional candlelit dinner are both good options. Additional decorations and flower arrangements also add a lot of warmth and life to a meal. If you wish to try a new dish, make sure that you practice it at least once or twice in advance so that you have time to perfect your Valentines Day dinner.

Valentines Day foods include chicken, fish and salads. Red meats are not preferred as they are considered to be ”heavy” meats that can make you sluggish. When planning your meal, make sure that the tastes of the individual dishes do not clash. Therefore, it is not advisable to have a spicy starter as well as a spicy main course. Oysters are considered to be an aphrodisiac and so they are often included in a Valentines Day meal.

If your partner is partial to seafood, you can have lemon garlic oysters as your starters and follow that with Salmon with ginger glaze and a light salad. If you like to experiment, you could also try a more unusual dish like Scotch Salmon or Salmon in a creamy Vodka sauce. Chicken marinated in an apple juice and honey mixture and then grilled is also an excellent choice.

To introduce a lovely light pepper flavor and aroma to your dish, you can make thin slits on the meat and then dust the insides of the slits with freshly ground peppercorn. If you do not favor spicy dishes, you can use lightly chopped fresh parsley instead of peppercorns. Your salad should be very light and it is preferable that it does not have a creamy dressing. A lemon or wine vinaigrette would be a better option as this would ensure that the salad is flavorful but not heavy.

Chocolate has always been a Valentines Day favorite. For dessert, you can make a chocolate fondue and use small heart shaped marshmallows as a dip. If you have a small heart shaped cookie cutter, you could use it to shape slices of cake so that you also have heart shaped pieces of cake as a dip. Alternately, you could prepare a small campfire in your garden and sit around it, roasting marshmallows and reminiscing.
